Like I said, I’m as surprised as anyone that I didn’t end up with anything from Scorsese.

And I didn’t go with Boogie Nights because when I think of music from that movie, I immediately jump to “The Touch.”

Paul, thanks for the kind words. “The Graduate” is problematic for all these categories. Both album and movie kind of stand on their own, but are also intertwined. I just had to leave it by the wayside (though the song to choose would’ve been Mrs. Robinson). Besides, I’ve already given it enough credit ’round these parts:

Great list. Boy, “Reservoir Dogs” RUINED that song for me, but now I can listen to it once again without shuddering.

I am so happy you did NOT include “Scarborough Fair” by Simon & Garfunkel from “The Graduate”. I never thought that song fit very well at all, and they shove it down your throat!

Also: “Being a music supervisor for a movie soundtrack has to be one superb gig. ” I can’t think of a job I would rather have OR be more suited.

Then again, so many great choices and too few spots.

“Tiny Dancer” and “Wise Up” could have been contenders for the singalong category, but the way the scenes play out, they work more like soundtrack pieces. You’ll see why in installment #4.

“Fight the Power” was not eligible because it was written specifically for Do the Right Thing before later appearing on Fear of a Black Planet. Otherwise it would have been in the top five.

And some that barely missed the cut:
“I’ve Told Ev’ry Little Star” – Mulholland Dr.
“Wouldn’t It Be Nice?” – Roger and Me
“Layla” – Goodfellas*
*Yeah, I can’t believe Martin Scorsese didn’t enter here either!
